Steel Framing vs wood

Issue  Argument for Steel Comments
Strength Steel has the highest strength to weight ratio of any building material used today.
Cost Typically, after disasters, wood prices go up because of demand. Steel prices are stable - and in many regions lower than quality wood
Stability Manufactured to exact dimensions and fittings, there is no cracking of walls caused by wood warping and shrinkage. Pine knots are particularly subject to breakage as most do-it-yourselfers know.
Endurance Constructing with steel framing and roofing affords “peace of mind” for a lifetime.
Safety Steel framing withstands wind loading significantly better than wood. Wood releases terpens and treated wood contains toxins, Indoor air quality is vastly improved in steel framed and roofed structures.  Steel will not fuel a fire. We see protection and safety as steel’s number one asset.
Insects Termites and other wood chomping insects are deterred by steel.
Environment Reduces the demand for timberland.
Construction Pre-engineered assemblies are easy to ship and install on site. Pre-assembled steel framing can drastically reduce construction time.
